Brashear City Apr 22
Dear Father
It is with much
pleasure that I seat myself
to write you a few lines
in answer to the few lines
you wrote me the other day
how much was your tax this
year and what was that tax
that Ma spoke about I
just heard that our army
has been reinforced and
they have taken 15 thousand
prisoners they was on
a prarie and our men
surrounded them that is
quite a lift they are giving
them fits was the sheep
better that ___ returned
than those was that we let
him have have you got all of
your logs and lumber drawed
did them 2 maple trees split
so they want fit for floor
boards how does the steers
gain and what do you
ask for them Pa did you
ever know a boy that lived
to wain berrys by the name
of Jack Davis he says he
knows you he is in Co B
I dont know what they keep
souldiers in the army that
haint good for nothing but
there is a good many of
them hear I guess that ___
has got a ___ that wont go
to sleep this summer does
warren have to hire a hand
this year he has spoke in
time about the hops this year
haint he ___ ___ has been
pretty plenty this winter haint
they I wish you had a lot of these
men down hear to chop for you
take 1 reg and they would whip out
a lot of it in a day Pa dont
worry about me for my
health is a good deal better
than it has been and if I
cant get so as to do duty
and stand it I shall apply
for a discharge and if I cant
get it there is a discharge
called leg ___ but I hate
to take it I shall come home
as soon as possible and I
take just as good care of
myself as I can I have
drew me a pair of shoes and
shall draw a rubber blanket
as soon as I get to the reg
my boots kneed fixing a
little but there haint no
shoe makers nor cobblers
hear well I have wrote about
all that I can think of this
time so I must close by
wishing you good by for this
time write as soon as you
get this this from your
