All of Galutia York's letters are formatted as they appear in the actual

December 19, 1862
Dec 19th now I will try to finish
my letter Dorr sent up last night
for me to come down thire about
1 oclock I went down and he wanted
me to write a letter to his brother
for he thought he was adying but he
was more scart than hurt dont you
know what greenbacks is it is a 10
dollar bill of Uncle Sams money
I should think you would know
what they be for I have heard ___ call
them so the first of any body yes I would
give a consiterable if I could be up
thire Christmas and New years
if we dident have good times I
would not guess again I guess that
I will step in ___ ___ ___
I would write you the tune to the
contraband song if I knew how but
seeing so I cant I will learn it to you
when I get home I cant see what the
what the reason is that Uncle George
dont write no there haint anyone
red any of my letters I wont let them
get hold of that letter when I get out
I will pick up some shells and send
them home in a paper yes Dan got
a letter from home about a week
before he started tell Hank Coon
if he dont write to me I never know
him again in the world I dont care
anything about those papers that is
if you have got through with them
I dont know who does my washing
now for the Hospital furnishes my
cloths while I am hear has ___ ___
razed that note yet I dont know
whether it will be safe much
longer or not so there is nobody
any business with my letters so I guess
they wont open them if they go to
the regiment you must not keep the
roosters and cider untill they spoil
wating for jamie for he may not
come until they have sowered Amasa
Wright is dead his mother came and
stayed with him over a fortnight before
he died ___ and Frank Gilbert
was with us all of the time old sandy
I guess wont call to see me but I guess he ___
stop up there yes I will write before going
away from any place that is if I know it
time enough no I haint seen a pretty
girl since I left baltimore if there is
any pretty girls in Va they keep out of
sight all of the women that I have
have seen is blacker than coal I
haint seen mor than 5 or 6 white
women since I have been in Va
yes I should like to see you all but
it is as it is and it cant be no ___
I dont know but I shall pick me a
woman out from among theas
country bands ask henry if he wants
me to pick him out one
Pa I thank you verry much
for kissing ___ for me I guess
you was the only one thought
to kiss for me it dident do me
much good for I dident know when
you done it if I had perhaps it would
have done me some good you have
got some rather late peas haint you
there was one fellow wanted to know
if they was winter peas and I told him
they was then he wanted to know
how much earlier they get ripe than
spring peas I should think you would
have rather of a tough time burning
your coal ___ how many bushels of corn
and potatoes did you have this year
you must drink a little cider for me
occasionaly have you got many apples
is the ___ fat well I guess I will stop
writing now for I guess you will get tired
of reading now ma dont be afraid of
writing long letters and dont for Gods sake
worry about me for I am well and
perfectly contented I like souldiering as
well as ever so dont worry write as soon
as you get this I remain as ever your
