Chesapeake General Hospital
Dec 7th
Dear Parents
It is with much
pleasure that I seat myself
once more pen in hand
to write you a few lines
to let you know how I
get along I have got so I
feel first rate but I am
pretty weak yet I am enjoi
ing myself tip top I have
got so that I can talk but
I am pretty hoarse I dont no
whether I can ever sing any
more or not but I hope this
will find you all well and
enjoiing good health I wrote
to you a week ago last friday
and have not received any
answer yet so I thought I
would write again for it
has been over a week since
I wrote and I think I did not
write the directions right
and I dont think I shall
get your letter I haint got an
answer from either of them
letters that I wrote when I
was at Fortress Munroe
they have followed the regi
ment I shall get them when
I get to the regiment the fleet
has gone it started last
thursday but where it has
gone is more than I know
we shall follow in the corse
of 2 weeks there is about 20
of Co. G hear sick with the
measles so you see I haint
the only one left behind
Joseph Gilbert died this
morning he has been sick
about 6 weeks his lungs
was all gone he is out of his
misery Folford died the other
day out of Co G and his
brother is verry sick with the
tiphoid fever jud has got
well he knows less and less
everry day he lives I dont know
what he will do by and by
we have real good care took
of us our nurses name is
bully and he is a bulley to
you had better behave
I am in the brown cottage
in the seventh ward it is a
beautiful place situated
on the sea shore and in
sight of the city of hampton
that the rebbels burnt it
was a verr large city there is a
large oister bed about 1/4 mile
from hear Dave Loomis says
that he is going to show them
a pear of clean feet when
he gets well enough well
I have wrote about all I can
think of now so I must
close you must write as
soon as you get this write
all of the news for I want
to hear from home dont
be afraid of long letters for
I can read it if it is fine
