October 14, 1862
Camp Belger Oct 14 1862
Dear Brother
it is with much
pleasure that I set myself
down to write you a few
lines which I should have
done 2 or 3 days ago if
we had not of calculated
to start very day and
I did not want to write
untill ___
I found out where we
was a going we should
have started last weak
if our regiment had of been
together we are briggaded
and the 4 regiments that
we was briggaded with
has gone and have been
in a battle in pennsylvan/ia
old Jackson is there with
30,000 rebells oh I forgot
to tell you that I am
well and enjoiing good
health and hope this will
find you the same I have
just come in from doing
my washing I have got it
hung up in my tent to dry
Henry I have seen some
great wonders since I started
from home or they are
wonders to me. I have see
the railroad and steam ships
I will as you may say all
kinds of vessels and above
all all kind of folk the folks
down hear after you take
the soldiers out are half
Negroes I got a letter from
Hoxie night before last
have they hired a schoolmaster
yet if they have who is it
did you go to the fair to
Negro City how many
fairs have you been to
this fall does your colt
stay in the lot good now
and how is he doing I
forgot to write that
the hamilton regiment
came through baltimore
the hamilton brass band
was with them the band come
up on our ground and stayed
4 days Saloo was with them
he was the only one I new
I will send you a piece of
___ glass it grows in rocks
there is a good many walnuts
and chestnuts grows down
hear if I could get a
chance I would pick up
and send you home
well I have wrote about all
that I can think of now
so I must close I have got
to go on dress parade now to
you must excuse all mistakes
and poor writing for I am
in a hurry so good by for
this time this from your
