Seward. This post was chartered in the same year that
Secretary of State William Henry Seward
died, so it was either named in his honor or in honor of
both Sec. Seward and his son, Brevet Brigadier General William H. Seward, Jr.,
who was Colonel of the 9th NYHA; WIA at Monocacy, MD; buried at Fort Hill
Cemetery, Auburn, NY.

Colonel Charles Hoffman Stewart, 3d NYHA. Born in 1828 in Geneseo; went to
California in 1849; joined May 1861 at Elmira as Captain of Co. G, 19th NYSV,
age 32 (redesignated as Battery G of 3d NYHA; promoted to Major Sept. 1861; to
Lt. Col. Dec. 1861; to Colonel Jan. 1863; mustered out with regiment July 1865;
had a post-war crockery business in Auburn; died 1874.

died of typhoid fever at Georgetown, Washington, DC June 21, 1863.

Chaplain Thomas Boyd Hudson, 75th NYSV. Born in 1826 in Auburn; Hamilton
College 1851; Auburn Seminary 1859; ordained in 1860 at Union Springs; pastor
at Union Springs from 1859; enlisted Nov. 15, 1861 at Springport; commissioned
Dec. 9, 1861; served from Nov. 26, 1861 until his resignation July 7, 1862;
pastor at Fulton 1862; at North East, PA, 1864; at Clinton 1869-1891; D.D. from
Hamilton College; treasurer of Hamilton College 1886-1904; resided in
Skaneateles from 1904 until his death on May 20, 1912.

2d Lt., age 21; KIA 1863 at Bayou Teche, LA.

Captain John W. Lockwood, Co. F, 11th NYSV. Joined at Port Byron as Sgt., age
18; WIA July 3, 1863 at Gettysburg; promoted to 1st Lt. Oct. 1863; WIA May 6,
1864 at the Wilderness; promoted to Captain June 1864; captured Aug. 25, 1864
at Ream's Station; wounded while trying to escape from the enemy; died of his
wounds; buried in Port Byron Cemetery.

Captain George M. Smith, Co. K, 111th NYSV. Joined at Aurora Aug. 1862 as 1st
Lt., age 23; promoted to Captain Jan. 1863; WIA at Gettysburg July 2, 1863;
discharged for wounds Nov. 30, 1863 at Annapolis, MD; died June 15, 1872;
buried in Oak Glen Cemetery, Aurora, NY.

"G & C Robinson." Brevet Brigadier General George Dorgue Robinson was born in
1838; attended University of Michigan at Ann Arbor; joined 75th NYSV Sept. 1861
at Genoa as 2d Lt., age 23; promoted to 1st Lt. Dec. 17, 1862; promoted to
Major of 95th USCT June 1, 1863; Colonel of 97th USCT Sept. 12, 1863; mustered
out with regiment April 6, 1866; brevet for gallantry at Pollard & Mobile,
Alabama; died April 14, 1873; buried at San Mateo, CA.

Private William H. Lewis, Co. E, 3d NYHA. Joined 19th NYSV at Auburn Sept.
1861, age 20; 19th NYSV redesignated as 3d NYHA; discharged May 22, 1863;
reenlisted June 16, 1863 at Geneva; mustered out with regiment at Richmond June
23, 1865.

C. Guest. ? Cpl. Charles W. Guest, Co. D, 143d NYSV. Joined Aug. 1862 at
Lansing (Tompkins Co.), age 22; died of typhoid fever Jan. 30, 1863 at Upton's
Hill, VA.

surrendered on Oct. 29, 1896.
