# 68 - Batavia - Post charter revoked Jan. 1875.
Lt. Col. Augustus I. Root, 15th NY Cavalry. Son of War of 1812 General Israel Root; mustered May 13, 1861 as Captain of Co. K, 12th NYSV and led Genesee County's first company out of the state; WIA Aug. 30, 1862 at Second Bull Run; promoted to Major Sept. 1862; to Lt. Col. Feb. 1863; mustered out with regiment May 1863; appointed as Lt. Col. of 15th NY Cavalry May 1863 but resigned in July; appointed Major of the regiment in July 1863 and Lt. Col. Sept. 1863; KIA April 8, 1865 near Appomattox, VA.

1st Lt. John M. Hutchinson, Co. C, 151st NYSV. Enlisted Aug. 19, 1862 at Pavilion as a private, age 24; promoted to Sgt., Co. I, Oct. 22, 1862; to 2d Lt., Co. A, Jan. 12, 1864; 1st Lt., Co. C, July 1, 1864; KIA July 9, 1864 at Monocacy, MD.

Brigadier General Emory Upton. Born Aug. 27, 1839 in Batavia, NY; attended Oberlin College; graduated from West Point in 1861; appointed 2d Lt., 4th US Artillery; promoted to 1st Lt. May 14, 1861; wounded while ADC to General Tyler at First Manassas; battery commander on the Peninsula and led an Artillery brigade during Antietam Campaign; promoted to Colonel, 121st NYSV Oct. 23, 1862; led brigade in VI Corps through Gettysburg to Spotsylvania, where he was wounded while breaking the "Bloody Angle;" appointed Brigadier General May 12, 1864; wounded at Opequan leading a division; assumed command of cavalry division in Alabama Dec. 13, 1864; promoted to Lt. Col. of 25th US Infantry in 1866; post-war commandant of West Point, 1870-75; revised manual of army combat tactics; suicide March 15, 1881 while Colonel of 4th US Artillery at Presidio, San Francisco; buried in Fort Hill Cemetery, Auburn, NY.
# 396 - LeRoy - Sept. 6, 1883 to 1915.
Lt. Col. Phineas Staunton, 100th NYSV. Born 1817, son of Major General Phineas Staunton and his wife, Mary, early settlers of Wyoming County; at 18 he was on his father's staff who was commander of western NY militia; was a painter; was Vice Chancellor of Ingham University in LeRoy; left his business in NYC to raise Co. B, 100th NYSV at LeRoy; resigned Oct. 1862 in protest of Col. Dandy's assignment to the 100th; joined an expedition to South America and died Sept. 5, 1867 in Quito, Equador.
# 412 - Bergen - Oct. 13, 1883 to 1923.
Private William H. Fuller, Co. I, 8th NYHA. Son of David W. and Sabrina Fuller; enlisted Aug. 1, 1862 at Byron, age 22; mustered Aug. 14, 1862; served 1 year, 10 months, 26 days; wounded June 3, 1864 at Cold Harbor - right thigh, left hip, left arm; died July 8, 1864 at Campbell Hospital, Washington, DC, age 24; buried in East Bergen Cemetery, Bergen, NY; tombstone has the following epitaph, "Here let me rest, I shall never charge no more; The boys that left, Will the Union restore; Now Heaven's my home, For in sickness I cried To that friend of sinners, Who met me this side."
# 635 - Corfu - Aug. 25, 1888 to 1918.
Corporal Daniel W. Kinne, Co. G, 8th NYHA. Born 1843; enlisted July 29, 1862 at Batavia, age 19; mustered Aug. 14, 1862; promoted to corporal Feb. 1, 1864; WIA June 3, 1864 at Cold Harbor, VA; died June 9, 1864; buried in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Corfu.
