from Fall of 1861; Brevet BG USA; died in Washington, DC in 1885; buried in St.
John's Episcopal Churchyard, Cape Vincent, NY.

Private Edgar B. Steele, Co. I, 35th NYSV. Born 1842; enlisted as company
musician June, 1861; lost left foot at Fredericksburg, VA; became a shoemaker;
died March 6, 1878.

Colonel Alexander Piper, 10th NY Heavy Artillery. Captain 3d US Artillery;
mustered as Colonel of 10th NYHA July 7, 1863; mustered out with regiment July,
1865.

30; suffered severe concussion at Antietam and requested a disability discharge
Nov. 5, 1862; postwar mayor of Watertown, NY; his brother was NY Governor; died
in 1881.

Artillery in Watertown, Aug. 1861, age 28; WIA May 31, 1862; mustered as Lt.
Col. 10th NYHA Feb. 5, 1863; disability discharge April 5, 1864.

Captain Chauncey Wilkie, Co. I, 14th NYHA. Joined at Le Ray Jan., 1864 as
Captain, age 28; died of typhoid Aug. 1, 1864 aboard transport en route to
Washington, DC.

captured at Bull Run on Aug. 30, 1862; exchanged and returned to duty Dec. 18,
1862; discharged with unit May 1863; joined 24th NY Cavalry as Captain of Co.
G, January 1864; KIA June 18, 1864 near Petersburg, VA.

Brigadier General Joseph K. Barnes, Surgeon General, USA. Born in Philadelphia
in 1817; attended Harvard and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in
1838; studied meicine under Navy Surgeon General Harris; veteran of Seminole
Wars and Mexican War; appointed Colonel and Medical Inspector during 1861;
appointed acting Surgeon General Sept. 1863 and made a Brigadier General Aug.
1864; he attended Lincoln and Garfield after they were shot; retired 1882; died
in Washington, DC in 1883; buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Post named in memoriam.

Sgt. Oliver R. McAllister, Co. C, 35th NYSV. Joined as Sgt. May 1861 at
Antwerp; mustered out with company June, 1863.

2d Lt. Dealton W. Cooper, Co. G, 10th NYHA. Joined at Adams Aug 1862 as
Private, age 18; Sgt Sept. 1862; 2d Lt. Sept. 1863; died of typhoid fever Aug
5, 1864 at Fort Monroe, VA.

2d Lt., age 23; promoted to 1st Lt. March 1863; discharged for disability

at Stone Mills, age 18; mustered Sept. 1861; recd a disability discharge in a

Major James B. Campbell, 6th NYHA. Mustered as Captain in Black River
Artillery Sept. 1862 age 37; unit became Co. M, 10th NYHA; Major Feb. 1863; WIA
April 2, 1865 at Bermuda Hundred; transferred to 6th NYHA July 18, 1865;
mustered out with 6th Aug. 1865 in Washington, DC (appointed Lt. Col. but never
mustered as such).

1st Lt. Edward V. Mayhew, Co. G, 94th NYSV. Born Lyme, NY; farmer; enlisted
Oct. 21, 1861 at Cape Vincent; mustered Feb.
21, 1862 at 2d Lt., Co. G; WIA at Second Bull Run; was weak from malaria; sent
to Alexandria Hospital and "never rtd to the regiment;" mustered Jan. 1, 1863
as 1st Lt. with rank from Nov. 1, 1862; discharged as supernumerary on
consolidation March 19, 1863,

Corporal Eli S. Gillet, Co. C, 186th NYSV. Joined for one year August 1864 at
Worth, age 19; KIA April 2, 1865 at Fort Mahone, outside of Petersburg, VA.
- # 588 - Natural Bridge - Chartered April 13, 1891.
William T. Sherman. Named in honor of General "Uncle Billy" Sherman, who died
on Feb. 14, 1891.
