J.L. and C.S. Thompson, 104th NYSV. Named for two brothers who...died fpr their country."
- Private James L. Thompson, Co. A, 104th NYSV. Enlisted at Geneseo Sept. 30, 1861, age 23; captured at Gettysburg; died in Richmond, VA Feb. 16, 1864.
- Private Cordenio S. Thompson, Co. A, 104th NYSV. Enlisted at Geneseo Sept. 30, 1861, age 18; KIA Dec. 12, 1862 at Fredericksburg, VA.
# 216 - Dansville - Chartered May 16, 1881.
Captain Seth N. Hedges, Co. E, 14th NYHA. Joined 13th NYSV at Lima Aug. 1862 as a private, age 22; transferred to 140th NYSV June 24, 1863; discharged Nov. 1863 for promotion to 1st Lt. 14th NYHA; promoted to Captain March 8, 1865; mustered out with regiment Aug. 1865; brevet major NY Volunteers; after the war he returned to his home in Dansville and was an esteemed and honored citizen, occupying many public positions of trust, until his death Aug. 27, 1881.

Captain Henry C. Cutler, Co. A, 8th NY Cavalry. Joined at Avon as 1st Lt., age 23; promoted to Captain Dec. 1, 1862; KIA June 9, 1863 at Beverly Ford, VA.

Captain Jay E. Lee, 24th Battery NYLA. Joined at Perry Oct. 1861, age 27; resigned June 13, 1863; brevet Lt. Col. US Volunteers.

1st Lt. William C. Hall, Co. A, 136th NYSV. Joined Aug. 1862 at Portage as 1st Sgt., age 26; promoted to 2d Lt. March 1863; to 1st Lt. Sept. 1863; MWIA May 15, 1864 at Resaca, GA; died May 28, 1864 in hospital at Nashville, TN.

Lt. Colonel Edward S. Gilbert, 25th NYSV. Born July 26, 1829 in Livonia; joined 13th NYSV in April 1861 as 2d Lt., age 39; returned home after Bull Run and recruited an entire company for the 13th but was not offered the commission he expected, so he transferred himself and his company to the 25th NYSV; promoted to Captain Oct. 1861; transferred to Co. B, 25th NYSV Nov. 23, 1861; captured during Seven Days in 1862; exchanged in Aug. and promoted to Major from April 1862; to Lt. Colonel Sept. 12, 1862; health failing him he was sent home and he died Feb. 22, 1863 at Rochester of consumption.

Captain Augustus Ashley Curtiss, Co. I, 136th NYSV. Geneseo resident who enlisted at age 20; Sgt. Co. C Sept. 1862; promoted to 2d Lt. March 1, 1863; to 1st Lt. March 18, 1863; to Captain Nov. 1, 1863; WIA July 20, 1864 at Peach Tree Creek and lost a leg; discharged for disability Jan. 4, 1865; "honored by his people by being chosen as county clerk for two terms;" died in 1871.
# 417 - Nunda - Nov. 21, 1883 to 1922.
Captain Craig Wharton Wadsworth. 1841-1872; son of General James S. Wadsworth; served as an Additional Aide-de-Camp, USA, appointed and commissioned May 23, 1862; commissioned 2d Lt. in 25th NYSV on Sept. 19, 1861 but never mustered; resigned as of July 16, 1864; received the brevet rank of Colonel USA, dating from March 13, 1865 in recognition of his gallantry at Cold Harbor and Trevilian Station; became a Major General in the New York National Guard after the war; died Jan. 1, 1872 at the age of 31; buried in the Wadsworth family plot at Geneseo.

Captain James A. McPherson, Co. G, 16th Cavalry. Born Aug. 9, 1830, brother of Senator John McPherson of New Jersey;commissioned but not mustered as a Lt. in the 26th Ind. Battery of NYLA; joined 16th as captain Aug. 1863; resigned March 1865; brevet Lt. Col. NYSV; always wore badge issued to officers of the 16th in commemoration of the capture of John Wilkes Booth; he later built a steamer and a hotel that made Conesus Lake into a summer resort; involved in other civic improvements such as roads, etc.; died May 12, 1888; buried in Avon, NY.

Major Mark Scoville, 24th NY Cavalry. Joined 3d NY Cavalry at Rochester June 1861 as a private, age 25; promoted to Sgt.; mustered as 2d Lt. 24th NY Cavalry Feb. 1864; promoted to 1st Lt. March 1865; to Major June 13, 1865; transferred to NY Provisional Cavalry June 17, 1865; brevet Lt. Col. NY Vol.
# 518 - Springwater - Jan. 17, 1887 to 1919, chartered Mar. 3, 1911.
Major General William Babcock Hazen. Born 1830 in West Hartford, VT; West Point; Colonel of the 41st Ohio; appointed Brigadier General April 1863; Major General April 1865; Chief Signal Officer after the war; died in Washington, DC Jan. 16, 1887; buried at Arlington National Cemetery; post named upon his death.
# 625 - Caledonia - Chartered March 25, 1891.
McNaughton Family. An 1896 GAR directory says, "This post was named in honor of the McNaughton Family, which furnished more soldiers for the army during the Rebellion than any other in western New York. It was also selected being a Scotch name and well suited for the town in which it was located." One such McNaughton was 2d Lt. Henry D. McNaughton, Co. C, 4th NYHA who joined in Rochester in Jan. 1862, age 22; discharged Feb. 1863 for promotion to 11th NYHA; 11th NYHA never completed its organization at Rochester.

The Tiltons. Sons of Moscow pioneer Henry Tiltopn who died Sept. 24, 1883.
- Captain Albert Murray Tilton, Co. C, 51st Illinois Volunteers. Born March 7, 1836 in Moscow, NY; enrolled at Middleport, IL, as Lt. Sept. 20, 1861; mustered out Jan. 16, 1865 at Huntsville AL upon expiration of his enlistment; postwar employment as Ogden, Utah station agent for the Union Pacific Railroad; died Jan. 6, 1876 at Ogden; buried in Leicester Cemetery, NY.
- Private Henry Tilton, Jr., 24th Battery, NYLA. Born April 20, 1839 in Moscow, NY; enlisted Aug. 29, 1862 at Perry, NY; promoted to corporal April 14, 1863; returned to ranks Oct. 31, 1863; captured April 20, 1864 at Plymouth, NC; died Oct. 18, 1864 at Andersonville, GA; buried there in grave #11230.
- Corporal Robert Antis Tilton, Co. C, 51st Illinois Vol. Born April 30, 1844 in Moscow, NY; enlisted Dec. 20, 1861 at Middleport, IL; enlisted despite his brother Albert's opposition;health started to deteriorate after a few months; granted sick leave to return home and regain his health, but died July 23, 1862 at the home of friends in Middleport, before he could return to New York State; buried in Leicester Cemetery, NY.
- Private WIlliam Gibbs Tilton, 21st NY Battery NYLA. Born April 18, 1846 in Moscow, NY; enlisted Oct. 10, 1864 at Perry, NY; discharged Sept. 8, 1865; became a conductor on the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railroad; married Elizabeth Gates in 1884, no children; died May 19, 1921 in Racine, WI; buried there.
