Feb. 1863. Mustered out with regiment May 1863. Appointed as Lt. Col. of 15th
NY Cavalry Sept, 1863. KIA April 8, 1865 near Appomattox, VA.

Flag Captain Benjamin J. Porter, US Navy. Age 19 at Fort Fisher, in the Navy
since age 14. Spent a year in enemy hands, cited for bravery and daring under
fire. Exchanged and placed on Admiral Porter's staff and appointed commanding
officer of the Malvern. A tall man, he carried the Admiral's flag and
led the detail from the Malvern in the attack. He was shot down 50
yards from the enemy works, Jan. 15, 1865, Fort Fisher, NC. Grave in town
cemetery.

Corporal Anthony Stacey, Co. L, 9th NY Heavy Artillery. Private in 19th NYSV
which was redesignated to be the 3d NY Artillery. After discharge he joined
the 9th NYHA, Nov. 1863, age 26. In Sept. 1864 he was joined by Private Alfred
E. Stacey, age 18, and Private George Stacey, age 42. All apparently survived
the war.

wife Jane accompanied him to war and never left, nursing him when he was ill
and wounded. WIA at Gettysburg, WIA Nov. 27, 1863 at Locust Grove, VA.
Discharged June 1864 for wounds received.
