Lt. William P. Smith, 38th USCT. Joined 148th NYSV as a private at Geneva, NY,
in Sept. 1862, age 18; promoted to corporal, no date; discharged to accept
commission in 38th USCT March 1864; appointed adjutant; died of disease April
10, 1864.

1st Lt. Lucien W. Bingham, QM, 23d NYSV. Joined May 1861 at Elmira as Sgt., age
39; mustered out with regiment May 1863.

Brigadier General Joseph Gardner Swift. Born in 1783 in Nantucket, MA; two
brothers, William H. and John, were also generals; first graduate of West
Point, 1802; Commandant of USMA, 1816; retired in 1820 and moved to Geneva, NY;
died July 23, 1865; buried in Washington St. Cem., Geneva, NY; the Swift Post
established a plot for veterans at Geneva's Glenwood Cem. in 1909.

Captain Orin J. Herendeen, Co. H, 126th NYSV. Joined at Geneva Aug. 1862 as
captain, age 27; surrendered and paroled at Harper's Ferry; KIA July 3, 1863 at
Gettysburg.
# 162- Canandaigua - Chartered May 21, 1880.
1st Lt. Albert M. Murray, 2d US Artillery. 2d Lt. with 5th US Artillery June
17, 1862; transferred to 2d US Art. Oct. 6, 1862; 1st Lt. March 30, 1864; died
Aug. 12, 1864 while a POW; brevet captain USA for gallantry at Antietam; brevet
major USA for gallantry before Atlanta, GA.
# 225 - East Bloomfield - Chartered July 3, 1881.
Corporal Sheridan Crandall, Co. B, 85th NYSV. Joined in 1861, age 19; died of
disease as a prisoner in Richmond, VA, June 3, 1862.

age 21; mustered out with company June 1865.
