from the Utica Daily Observer, July 13, 1862:

  DEATH OF A VOLUNTEER.--The citizens
of Oneida were pained to receive the news
by telegraph, that ASEL W. PHILIPS, of this
place was so seriously wounded at the bat-
tle before Richmond, on June 27th, that he
expired to-day. Mr. PHILIPS was one of
the first volunteers from Oneida village,
who left parents and a devoted wife, to aid
in putting down this great rebellion.  We
hope his acts were worthy to find favor at
the Throne of Grace.  Means have been
provided, through the generosity of Mr. S.
CHAPIN, Jr., for having his remains brought
home from Washington, for burial.
