1st Lt. George W. Snyder, USA. Richmondville resident; West Point; brevet 2d
Lt US Engineers, July 1, 1856; appointed 1st Lt. in US Engineers July 1, 1860;
at Fort Sumter when it was under attack; offered colonelcy of 12th NYSV Oct.
1861 but declined ; on General Heintzelman's staff during First Bull Run
campaign; died Nov. 17, 1861 of diarrhea; buried in Warnerville, NY; brevet
Captain USA for gallant service in defense of Fort Sumter, SC; brevet Major USA
for gallant service in Manassas Campaign.
- # 131 - Jefferson - Chartered Dec. 10, 1879.
Sgt. Cyrenus Tyler, Co. E, 134th NYSV. Farmer in Jefferson, not married;
joined in Aug. 1862 as Sgt., age 23; captured at Gettysburg; died at Belle Isle
in Richmond, VA, Dec. 1, 1863; buried in Richmond National Cemetery, grave
#3074.
- # 134 - Schoharie - Chartered March 13, 1878.
Colonel Simon Hoosic Mix, 3d NY Cavalry. Joined at Washington, DC Aug. 1861 as
Lt. Col., age 36; promoted to Colonel April 1862; MWIA June 15, 1865 while
leading a charge of his brigade at Petersburg, VA - captured and died in enemy
hands the same day; Military History of Schoharie County says he was killed
during the fighting, his "body left on the field and buried by the Rebels."
- # 157 - Esperance - Chartered April 28, 1880.
Captain George A. Turnbull, Co. A, 134th NYSV. Joined Aug. 1862 at Schoharie
as 1st Lt., age 27; promoted to Captain March 1863; discharged January 30,
1864.
- # 485 - Middleburg - Chartered June 4, 1894.
Corporal Moses Tompkins, Co. I, 76th NYSV. Farmer, not married; joined Oct.
1861 at Middleburg, age 18; appointed Corporal Sept. 1, 1863; returned to the
ranks in April, 1864; wounded and captured at The Wilderness May 5, 1864; died
Nov. 16, 1864 as a prisoner of war in Florence, SC.
