THE DEATH OF GEN. WILLIAM B. TIBBETTS Troy, N.Y., Feb. 10--Gen. William B. Tib- betts has died at his residence in this city at 9:30 o'clock to-night. He was born at Hoosick, Rensselaer County, March 31, 1837. He was graduated from Union College in 1859. At the outbreak of the re- bellion he raised a company of the Second Regiment, New-York Volunteers. In 1863 he recruited the Griswold Cavalry, and became its Colonel. He dis- tinguished himself in various battles, and was brevetted Brigadier-General in 1864. He served on the frontier after the war, and was mus- tered out of the service as Major-General, Jan. 15, 1866. Gen. Tibbetts received injuries during the war which incapacitated him from active duties throughout the remainder of his life. He was instru- mental in organizing the Tibbetts Veteran Corps, and Tibbetts Cadets, of this city, both of which com- panies were named in his honor. By his death the Militia of this city loses its firmest and most liberal supporter and this community an honest and re- spected citizen.
