Private Thomas P. Powell, Co. D, 124th NYSV. Joined at Goshen Aug. 1862 as a private, age 26; WIA at Petersburg, VA, June 16, 1864; died of small pox at City Point, VA, Nov. 30, 1864.

Brevet Brigadier General John Howard Kitching. Born in 1838 in NYC; merchant; Captain 2d NYHA; joined 6th NYHA as Lt. Col. Sept. 1862; promoted to Colonel April 1863; WIA Oct. 19, 1864 at Cedar Creek, VA; died of wounds Jan. 10, 1865 at Dobb's Ferry, NY; buried in GreenWood Cemetery, Brooklyn; brevet for campaign before Richmond, VA.

Musician George Acker, Co. A, 32d NYSV. Enlisted May 1861 at NYC for two years, age 18; killed May 7, 1862 at West Point, VA; history of Tarrytown says post was "named for first area man to die in the war - George Acker's crumpled body was found in a bloody pasture."

Born in Cooperstown in 1815; West Point; lawyer; 1861 Colonel and QM on staff of NYSM Major General; Brigadier General USV Aug. 1861; lost favor via friendship with Fitz John Porter; died in Scarborough in 1883; buried under chancel of St. Mary's Episcopal Church.

1st Lt. R. Stewart Hart, 17th NYSV. Died of disease June 24, 1861 in NYC.

Brevet Brigadier General Addison Farnsworth. Born in 1825 in Albany, NY; Mexican War veteran; US Customs official and newspaper publisher; Lt. Col. 38th NYSV; Colonel 79th NYSV; Colonel 12th Veteran Reserve Corps; died April 1, 1877 in Brooklyn; buried in Rural Cemetery, Albany; post named in memoriam.

Musician George Acker, Co. A, 32d NYSV. A charter was found in the NYS Library in April 1996 with the date shown; Tarrytown history says that Acker Post #70 was disbanded early in the 1880s - this may have been a short-lived attempt to revive it.

Major James Cromwell, 124th NYSV. Joined 7th NY Cav. at Troy, NY, as Captain, Co. D, age 21; mustered out with regiment March 1862; mustered as Major of the 124th Sept. 1862; KIA July 2, 1863 at Gettysburg.

Brevet Brigadier General Ward Benjamin Burnett, US Army. Born in 1811 in PA; West Point '32; veteran of Black Hawk War; resigned from the army in 1836 to be a civil engineer; Colonel of 2d NY in Mexican War, badly wounded at Churubusco; received thanks of the NYS Legislature and a silver medal from NYC; received gold medal from regimental survivors in 1853; married a daughter of General Aaron Ward in Westchester County; civil engineer for dry docks at Brooklyn Navy Yard, 1849-55 and for water projects at Brooklyn, Philadelphia and Norfolk; an invalid in his later years; Ward B. Burnett, Jr. was a Lt. in the US Navy; BBG Burnett died June 24, 1884 in Washington, DC; post was named in memoriam.

Captain Daniel A. Flandreau, Co. A, 87th NYSV. Joined Sept. 1861 at Dresden, age 24; though elected Captain, he was commissioned as 1st Lt., Co. A; WIA May 31, 1862 at Fair Oaks; dismissed Aug. 23, 1862.

Major General John Charles Fremont. Born 1813 in Savannah, GA; expelled from Charleston College, SC; in army topographical engineers, 1838-1848; married Jessie, daughter of Senator Thomas Hart Benton, in 1841; US Senator from California, 1850; presidential candidate for Republican party in 1856; appointed Major General in 1861; Territorial Governor of Arizona, 1878-1887; died in 1890 in NYC; buried in Rockland Cemetery, Piedmont-on-the-Hudson, NY
