Captain John P. Robinson, Co. A, 1st NY Dragoons. Enrolled Aug. 7, 1862 at
Portage, NY, as 1st Lt., Co. A, 130th NYSV, age 27; mustered as Captain Oct. 1,
1862; 130th NYSV was mounted during July of 1863 and became the 1st NY Dragoons
on Sept. 10, 1863; mustered out June 30, 1865; died at Warsaw, NY; brevet Major
NYSV; brevet Lt. Col. NYSV; and brevet Colonel US Volunteers.
- # 109 - Castile - Charter revoked March 1875.
Private Edwin M. Carpenter, Co. A, 1st NY Dragoons. Enlisted at Castile Aug.
1862, age 21; WIA May 8, 1864 at the Wilderness; died May 12, 1864 at
Fredericksburg, Va.
- # 130 - Warsaw - Chartered July 24, 1871.
Brigadier General Alfred Gibbs. USMA, class of 1846; Captain of US Dragoons in
Mexican War; impaled by an enemy lancer and received two brevets; wounded again
on the frontier fighting Indians; became Colonel of the 130th NYSV Sept. 6,
1862; appointed Brigadier General Oct. 19, 1864; commanded brigades at Suffolk,
Cold Harbor, Five Forks, Sayler's Creek, and was with Sheridan through the
Valley Campaign; brevet Brigadier General US Army, brevet Major General US
Volunteers, brevet Major General US Army
- # 218 - Arcade - Aug. 19, 1881 to 1921.
Major General Alfred Thomas Archimedes Torbert. Born in 1833 in Georgetown, DE;
in regular army before the war and received a commission in the Confederate army;
was an infantry commander for the first three years of the war; appointed Brigadier General
in November, 1862; assigned to the cavalry April, 1864 and took part in Sheridan's
Shenendoah Valley victories; returned to 5th US Infantry after the war; resigned in 1867;
took diplomatic posts for the next ten years and then went into private business.
Died in a shipwreck August 29, 1880, buried in Milford, DE.

Captain Rowley P. Taylor, Company C, 1st N.Y. Dragoons. Mustered Sept. 3, 1862; killed in
action Jan. 30, 1863 at Deserted House, VA. (Note: the 130th NYSV was mounted during
July 1863 and became the 1st NY Dragoons Sept. 10, 1863.)
- # 219 - Attica - Chartered Jan. 10, 1908.
Captain Rowley P. Taylor, Company C, 1st N.Y. Dragoons.
- # 229 - Pike - Chartered Sept. 24, 1881.
President James A. Garfield. Garfield was assassinated July 2, 1881, and this post was
likely named as a memorial to him - he died Sept. 19. Was a Republican politician;
Colonel of the 42d OH volunteers; made Brigadier General Jan. 11, 1862; Major General
Sept. 19, 1863; resigned Dec. 5, 1863 to take a seat in Congress; served nine terms
in the House of Representatives.
- # 238 - Johnsonburg - Chartered Nov. 10, 1881.
Major General John Buford. Born in 1826 in Woodford County, KY; West Pointer; appointed
Brigadier General 1862 and received Major General's commission on his deathbed, Dec. 16, 1863;
buried at West Point.
- # 301 - Gainesville - Chartered Oct.16, 1882.
Sergeant William B. Lawrence, Co. A, 1st NY Dragoons. Joined in August of 1862 at Gainesville,
age 30; appointed 1st Sgt.; died Nov. 24, 1862 of disease at Suffolk, VA, age 30;
buried in Maple Grove Cemetery, Gainesville, NY. NOTE - 130th NYSV was mounted during
July, 1863 and became 1st NY Dragoons Sept. 10, 1863.
- # 414 - Bliss - Oct.15, 1883 to 1919.
Captain Stephen L. Wing, Co. C, 104th NYSV. Joined at Geneseo in Oct., 1861 as Captain,
age 50; discharged for disability Oct. 8, 1862.
Captain Nelson J. Wing, Co. C, 104th NYSV. Joined at Geneseo in Oct., 1861, as private,
age 24; promoted to 2d Lt. in Dec., 1861; to 1st Lt. Sept., 1862; to Captain Oct., 1862;
discharged for disability Feb. 5, 1863.
- # 488 - Castile - Jan. 4, 1884 to 1919.
Sergeant George G. Pierce, Co. E, 2d NY Mounted Rifles. NYS AGO report says "George B.Pierce;"
joined as a veteran at Castile in Jan., 1864, age 29; promoted to Sgt. Feb. 1864; MWIA at
Petersburg, VA, and died June 17, 1864.
