1613      First importation of Holstein cows to America.

1795      The Holland Land Company sends 8 animals to their agent,
John Lincklaen of Cazenovia.

1845      Gerrit Smith Miller born in
Cazenovia on January 30.

1852-1861      Winthrop Chenery of Belmont, Massachusetts imports
Holsteins.  His herd of eight head contracts an illness, and has to be
destroyed.  He imports five more head in 1861, but the small herd has little
lasting impact on the Holstein industry.

1869
Gerrit S. Miller imports Hollander, Dowager,
Crown Princess, and Fraulein from Holland.  
He also begins practice of weighing and recording daily production.


1870      Birth of Agoo, the first calf born in the herd. 

1871
Dowager becomes the first cow to complete a yearly production record.
Association of Breeders of Thoroughbred Holstein Cattle is formed in Boston.


1874      Death of Gerrit Smith, Gerrit Miller's grandfather.

1876      Second importation of cattle from Holland - six head
including Billy Boelyn.

1878      Third importation of nine head, including Johanna.

1879      Fourth and fifth importations of 17 head each.

1880      Incorporation of the Holstein Breeders Association of
America.

1882-83

Echo sets a two year production record of nearly 45,000 lbs. of
milk.
Empress produces 19,714 lbs. of milk in one year.

1885      Formation of the Holstein-Friesian Association of America.

1929      Dedication of the Holstein-Friesian Historical Marker.

1937      Death of Gerrit Smith Miller on March 10.
