Dear Sister
I am now seated to write you
a few lines probably the last I will
write to you while I am in the Army
every thing bids four a speedy peace
fighting I think is done and within
10 days from this date I expect to
hear that peace is declared
from the Potomac to the Rio Grande
and I hope it will then You may
look for me home about the first of
July if not before I should not be
surprised to be on my way home in
about a month the sooner the
better.
I am now satisfied with soldiering
but I did not want to see this thing
through and now I believe I have
The weather is verry warm here at
present about like it is at home in
July we are in a very pleasant place
and will probably stay here untill
we move towards home as General
Sherman says in his Order will
be but a few days at most. We will
probably have to march to Newburn
which is about 100 miles or so but
in good weather that is only a ten [?]
day trip I do not want to let anything
go that I have at home untill I get
there myself I will close for the
present and hope for the best from
your affectionate Brother
   Good day
                Jas A. Morrison
