Buttermilk Falls
Dear Father
I received your letter Thursday night and was
very glad to get it. You say Pat Picket's wife
is dead, it will be hard on him poor fellow, so
Mr Chadayne is got well. I am glad of that so
you bake more now than you did. Pick does all
right he is a good horse. These shoes of mine
was not worth having. they are pretty near wore
out already the soles are all coming off and
they are no stiffer than a piece of paper. They
are raising a company to go and fight here and
they would like to get Regan to be a captain of it,
but I do not know how that will be yet Sarah
said that Mary dreamed that I did not have enough
to eat that is not so we have all we will eat
here. My love to all of the family and to Grandmother.
Your affectionate Son, William H. Emslie
PS a mob got together in Fishkill last week and
was agoing to hang Regan for sympathizing with the
South, but there was not enough of them or they
would.
