Dear Sister
I am now seated to write you a few
lines to let you know that I am still
alive and well I have just come
of from a Campagne of two
months and a very tiresome one it
was for the roads were very bad
and the weather was rather wet the
most of the time but here I am
well as usual and not in the least
homesick I am thinking of the five
months that I have to pass off
yet and I mean to pass it off as easy
as I can I am seeing a good deal
of country
I would not have missed these last
two Campaines for five hundred
dollars but I think that such
Campagnes are ended with me. I think
the next will be intended for Richmond
that must fall and that about the
first of June for we will leave here the
first of May but we will not be able to
advance verry fast for I think the Rebs
will show more fight now in front than they
have on either of the last Campagnes but
we have a very large Army here at the
present time more than double that we
left Atlanta or Savannah with but
we had Army enough to sweep a good
strip of their Country clean we did
not leave a thing in South Carolina
that we could use and a great deal
of propperty was burned we
had but little sinpathy for the
people of that state we burned the
houses down and everything that
was in them. Thousands of families
must suffer I burned one house
and I thought that was my share
well, enough of this
I suppose you have had a verry
cold winter but I have only seen
snow once and could hardly say that
it was snow taken for I see but
a few flakes I suppose that if I
live to be home another winter I can
hardly stand the cold.
   I have received three letters
from Delia since I came here
she was well and I received one from Sarah
Our folks were all well I suppose
they have a verry comfortable house to
live in now and I am glad of it
for they needed it very much I
wonder how Sarah P. gets along
I never hear a word about her but
I suppose she is in the same old piece.
Well ____ five months more will
bring me home once more and I shall
not be sorry when that time comes
for I think three years is enough
for once I must close for the present
hoping this will find you all well
Please except this from your affectionate
Brother
                   Jas A. Morrison
