Washington March 1, 1863
Dear Sister
I received your letter yesterday it
had 2 Dollars four postage stamps in
it and I needed it verry much. I've
had to hire my washing done for
some time and it costs five or six
cents apiece so it counts up some
I have been in the hospital 6 weeks
to day and now I feel as well as I
ever did I am going to stay here
in the hospital it is a good place
and I can stay as long as I
want to and so can John he is
fleshier now
than he ever was before John
likes it here as well as I do
We don't have to eat hardtack
with worms in them half an inch
long or raw pork and that stink
and yet they would taste good to us
John never had as much of it as I have.
When you write again tell me where
to direct my letters I have not
much news to write this time I
have wrote a long one to Delia today
We have got the box and I
tell you it goes pretty good that
butter that Ansel's folks sent
to me is first rate I think
they do pretty well towards me
they have givern
considerable that bread and dried
beef was good everything kept
verry nice and moist I don't
think of anything more to write
at present please excuse all
mistakes for I wrote this in a
hurry
from your affectionate
Brother
