April the 27 1863
Dear driends I reseved your
leters last night and was glad
to from you I am quite smart
and hope that this will find you
the same I got your leters both
at a time and will answer them
in this It is warm down
hear now but the wind rises
in the midle of the day sow that
it is not so bad as it mite be
I wish that I was there to run[?]
a doubleheter from the ____
up home again as we did last
spring If I ever git home
I shal now how to take
comfort I think time will
tell the story it is pirty
sickly down hear now our first
lutenant died last night he has Lt. George G.
ben sick a long time Capt Donnelly died

___ is out of health
now but is around our regiment
is coming back hear to
Brashear City some of them is
hear now the rest of them
will be hear tomorrow I think
they was ordered back to drive
cattle and horses and mules the
army is some 150 miles from
hear they drove evry thing before
them they left on doubleqick
and left evry thing wee think
that wee have got thare suplies
cutof now from Texas our men
is near charleston on redriver
they had a hard march some
of our men is wounded but
not bad thare was two kild
one was James Hill that lived James Hill, Co. H,
to ____ the ball went rite from Smithville,
thrue his head wee now not KIA 4/13/63 at
how long wee shall stay hear Ft. Bisland, LA.
likeanough all sumer I got
that money all rite never
mind the box wee have now
four month pay due now I
think wee shall git it in
a week or to you think that
I must ben out of ___ when
I rote that leter I dont now
how you or what you are a doing

to hitch on to Serah for
his sake and hers what is
babyese name I think it

Did you have to by hay this
spring Harris has had to
take a gun and travel on
he is well Ury is as tough
as an owl he probly will
be lutenant now he makes
a good ordilie I think tell
Clem that I want him
to rite me a leter tell
him that if I was
up to his hows I wold tell
him that ole skiper is
the nose foe one week with
us I wish you could see
the shuger and cotton that our
folks has taken it is nice
prisnors is all the while
coming down they say that
they are glad they are taken
they take the oath some of them
never to fight ous again
the band is now playing for
the funeral this is all Lt. Donnelly?
