Everett A. Gilmour
1921 – 2003
Mr. Gilmour was a highly regarded Chenango County banker and community volunteer who moved to Norwich, NY in 1957. Mr. Gilmour worked his way up through the banking industry in Central New York starting out as a teller. Following his service in WWII, he began his career with National Bank and Trust Company (now NBT) as branch manager in their Bainbridge office. While there, he met Pearl Taylor, who would become his wife. In 1960, he became NBT Bank Vice President and in 1962 he was elected to the Board of Directors. He later became Chairman of the Board, President, and Chief Executive Officer.
In 1996, Everett was honored by NBT for fifty years of service and recognized for his leadership, vision, and unequaled commitment to the bank. It was under his leadership that NBT went from a small institution to a major community bank.
Committed to the community as well, Everett served many area organizations including the Chenango County Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Norwich Foundation, the Otis A. Thompson Foundation, the Norwich YMCA, Chenango Memorial Hospital, and many more. A true nature lover, he particularly enjoyed the outdoors and especially the many farms of central New York. Of all Everett’s many accomplishments, he was most proud of his family.
Thanks to the generosity of the Otis A. Thompson Foundation, NBT Bank, and Mrs. Gilmour, Morrisville State College and Norwich Campus students, faculty, and staff join Mr. Gilmour’s many friends and family in celebrating his life and memory through this beautiful library.
