Advanced Information Tools

Purpose: This issue is aimed at providing you with advanced tools that will make your information seeking more efficient and will not tie you to a particular web site or page.

This information is also at http://library.morrisville.edu/advancedtools.html.

Bookmarklets

Bookmarklets are "simple tools that extend the surf and search capabilities of Netscape and Explorer web browsers." (from Bookmarklets.com) They are little javascript programs used to extend your web browser. The library has already created some bookmarklet links (below) which you can add to your browser right now for use at any time. They are also called "favelets."

SETUP INSTRUCTIONS: Choose a useful Search Tool bookmarklet from the list below, mouse over that link below, right click, and click on the 'Add to Favorites' or 'Add to Bookmarks' choice.  You can also highlight the link and drag it to your "Links" toolbar. Now it's available for you to use anytime from your Links, Favorites or Bookmarks. Choose more -- they're all free!

Search Tool Bookmarklets:

How to use the tools:

(1) Open your browser's Favorites or Bookmarks, click on the Search Tool link you think would be helpful (e.g., Search OneFile) and it will open a small pop-up window where you can type in your search word or phrase. Click the 'OK' button to do an immediate search in that source!

OR

(2) Highlight a word or phrase in the webpage you're looking at, open your browser's Favorites or Bookmarks and click on a Search Tool link you think might be helpful (e.g., Morrisville Library Catalog), and it will automatically show you the results of searching that word in the Morrisville Library Catalog. Slick, huh?
