Library Tips: an occasional letter

Monday, October 16, 2000

This publication is sent out via e-mail to all faculty, staff, and students.  Its purpose is to announce new library services and other items of interest to you.  We will not drown you with information. Please send comments to Bill Drew: drewwe@morrisville.edu.

Electronic Books (eBooks)

Thanks to the SUNYConnect project, the library is now able to provide you with over 800 different eBooks. These are books you can read and search on your laptop or desk top computer. The loan period for the core collection of  over 800 titles is a maximum of 24 hours.  The best way to get started is by clicking on the link underlined below or on the netLibrary logo. Here is what you need to do:

1. The first time you go to netLibrary, you must be on a computer connected to the college computer network.  This can be via wireless or any other computer on the network.

2. Click on create account near the top of the page. You must fill in all of the fields highlighted in red. Click on submit at the bottom of the page.

3. You can now access eBooks via the library web page by clicking on the link for Books, videos, etc.

4. When you are ready to checkout your first eBook, you will be given the choice of viewing it online or downloading it to your computer. Downloading it will require you to install the eBook reader software.  Just follow the instructions  on the netLibrary webpage.

If there is enough interest we will set up training to show you how to use eBooks. Let me know if you are interested.
